It is an all-too-common story of a single mother and her daughter on the edge of the social ladder, but it is told in a way that embraces its details instead of trying to achieve some sort of universal statement. This round is the TRL era in full: Britney, boy bands, Eminem, Destiny's Child, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, and everything else that owned MTV between 1997 and 2003. The songs you knew every word to without ever meaning to learn them. The ones that played at every school party, every sleepover, every bedroom ceiling you stared at in 2002. If you were there, you'll feel it in your bones. If you were too young, or not yet born, trust us, you already know these songs. That's how big they were.
No music knowledge needed. Just listen, mark your card, and sing along louder than everyone else. Small prizes along the way, one final winner, and bragging rights all summer.
20:30 = "CROSSROADS" (2002) / directed by Tamra Davis, 2002, 93 minutes /Three childhood friends, a road trip, and a Britney Spears at the height of her powers. It's campy, it's emotional, it's completely of its time - and we wouldn't have it any other way

18.30 = CINEMA CAFÉ OPENS (As we are closing on June 30th for a 2-year renovation, this movie - a favorite of our volunteers which fueled many an out-of-control staff party - is presented free to our loyal fans as a sloppy wet kiss goodbye.

19.30 = "THE APPLE," directed by Menahem Golan, 1980, 90 minutes / To say this movie is completely whacked would only be scratching the surface of just how insane it is. There are musical numbers almost every five minutes. The elaborately imagined costumes and the set design and basically the whole premise is light years beyond weird. ...Audiences in 1980 were not very kind to this movie. At the premiere, guests were given free copies of the soundtrack, and they hated the movie so much, they started throwing the soundtracks at the screen. Golan was so distraught by how much hate the movie got, he almost jumped off a balcony to his death. Luckily, his business partner saved him and the film became the rabies-infected black sheep of cult classics

19.00 = "THE LAST PICTURE SHOW," directed by Peter Bogdanovich, 1971, 118 minutes / Peter Bogdanovich crafts a dreary coming-of-age tale set in landlocked Texas. The film is loosely based on a 1966 novel of the same name written by Larry McMurtry and includes many songs by Hank Williams Sr. and other country & Western and 1950s popular music recording artists to reflect the era. Most of the townsfolk are bored to tears in the windswept hamlet of Anarene, Texas. Their saving grace is a local cinema (the picture show) which is about to close its doors forever. Lets hope Husets Biograf is not destined for the same fate
